Childcare Staff

Job Description

Childcare staff offer value-oriented, child-centered activities that help children develop their talents and feel a sense of belonging. Activities should combine friendships, education, adventure, and personal growth, creating days as unique as each child and memories that last a lifetime. We design and deliver creative programs that are based on YMCA values, caring honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith.  Childcare staff will strive to nurture all our children in any of our childcare programs in a challenging and supportive environment where their safety and well-being are the number one priority. 

Currently the Childcare Programs consists of the following programs: After School Program, Camp Osage, Spring Break Camp, Winter Break Camp, No School Days, and Child Watch.

Qualifications

  1. Must be at least 18 years of age or older. Subject to a background check.
  2. Previous experience working with children/or education is preferred.
  3. Must have strong communication and organizational skills.
  4. Ability to work at times with minimal supervision.
  5. Must be willing to let your inner child shine through when working directly with our children enrolled.

Essential Functions

  1. Supervises a group of children.
  2. Implements program activities that are consistent with YMCA values while adhering to the daily schedule.
  3. Create and maintain a clean and safe environment both physically and emotionally for all.
  4. Attends staff meetings and completes all required training.
  5. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
  6. Reports suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
  7. Follows mandated abuse reporting requirements.
  8. Maintains communication with parents and co-workers/supervisors.
  9. Other duties as assigned by Lead Camp Counselor or the Assoicate Director of Childcare and Community Impact.

Childcare Coordinator

Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Childcare Coordinator provides overall direction and supervision for all programs under Childcare at the YMCA and is under direct supervision of the Associate Direct of Childcare and Community Impact.  Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on engagement, structure, and new learning opportunities. Responsible for the supervision of staff and new program development in conjunction with the Assoicate Director of Childcare and Community Impact.  Currently the Childcare Programs consists of the following programs: After School Enrichment, Summer Camp, Spring Break Camp, Winter Break Camp, No School Days, Y-Club & Child Watch. 

Qualifications

  1. Must be at least 21 years of age or older. Subject to a background check.
  2. Previous experience working with children/or education is required. Education preferred is 60 college semester hours, which would include at least 12 hours in child-related courses, or 24 months (about 2 years) experience and 12 college semester hours in child-care related courses. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree is preferred.  Associate’s or Bachelor's degree is preferred. 
  3. Must have strong communication and organizational skills.
  4. Ability to work at times with minimal supervision.
  5. Ability to plan, organize and implement age appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities. 
  6. Must be willing to let your inner child shine through when working directly with our children enrolled.
